We see many people around us that proudly say that they are apolitical. They don’t care. They don’t care about what’s happening in the country as long as it doesn’t affect them. They pay no attention to who is sitting in the parliament, the local assembly or even the municipal corporation in their area. They aren’t even interested in voting for any elections. They’d rather have a long weekend for their family.
Then there are those who are politically disillusioned. They are aware of the problems that exist in their political environment, but they are of the opinion that the system will never change and hence there’s no point in even talking about it. They are convinced that one party is influential that it cannot be voted out of power, and there’s no point in even trying.
Both these types of people are of the opinion that they are apathetic about any political ideology.
But, not making a choice is a choice.
The politics is not between just the government vs the opposition parties. We as the people of India have been silent viewers for so long that they’ve stopped considering us. The voters are the biggest stakeholders in this experiment of democracy, and they are given the least respect in the matters that affect their entire lives.
For example, Nirmala Sitharaman said that no one has the moral authority to ask BJP about electoral bonds scam because other parties also have taken the money through the same. But we, as the people of India, the only one’s that are paying stakeholders in this country, do have the right, the authority to ask questions to the government as well as all the political parties.
We as a voters should realize that our benefit is in siding with neither the governing party or the opposition, but in caring about getting our issues solved. We have the power to elect governments, questioning them and replacing them if need be.
That is power. Also a responsibility!!
